IRAQ WAR FUND CASES
The PH Law Firm represents United States war veterans and other US nationals who were injured in attacks during the Iraq and Aphgan wars that were the result of state sponsored terrorism.
WHAT IS THE IRAQ & AFGHAN WAR FUND?
The Iraq & Afghan War Fund is a compensation pool created by several banks that have either pled guilty to criminal charges or have reached a settlement for deferred prosecution. These banks, and their sanctions, include:
Barclays Plc
BNP Paribas S.A.
Commerzbank AG
Credit Suisse AG and Credit Suisse Asset Management Limited
HSBC Holdings Plc
Standard Chartered Plc
These banks participated in the movement of funds to Iran. The funds were used for the purpose of developing explosive devices, such as EFP’s, in acts of terrorism against US troops and nationals. A portion of each settlement is being set aside to compensate victims of Iranian-backed terrorism and their families.
U.S. ANTI-TERRORISM ACT GIVES CERTAIN VETERANS AND FAMILIES THE RIGHT TO SUE
Under provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act, victims of terrorism may sue “any person who aids and abets, by knowingly providing substantial assistance, or who conspires with the person who committed such an act of international terrorism.” The banks provided substantial assistance to Iran’s terrorist activities. Therefore, U.S. servicemembers injured by Iranian instruments of terror and families of servicemembers can sue the banks for compensation.
